With an ever aging population, the Plymouth Report states there are 47’352 over the age of 65 in the city and predicts an increase of 15’400 by 2034. There are approximately 26’000 disabled people in Plymouth. You will no doubt have family, friends and possibly staff who fit these categories. As we all age and have health needs, Access Plymouth wants to ensure we are ready to meet the growing demand for our services and develop new ones to support more people.
Last year we made 18’109 trips and hired equipment 5915 times. We helped people aged 18 to 104 years to go to health appointments, do their shopping, go to social clubs and day centres as well as visiting friends and running errands like banking. Our recent survey told us 94% of customers feel less lonely using our bus or car transport and that 89% said hiring a scooter or wheelchair is the only way they can visit the city centre shops. Without Access Plymouth these vulnerable people would struggle to do the things we all take for granted.
