In the UK 1.2 million older people feel lonely and 49% of disabled people feel socially excluded. Access Plymouth exists to support elderly and disabled people to get out and about by providing mobility equipment hire and accessible transport.

Last year we made 18’109 trips and hired equipment 5915 times with the support of 33 volunteers. We helped people aged 18 to 101 years to go to health appointments, do their shopping, go to social clubs and day centres as well as visiting friends and running errands like banking.

Our recent survey told us 94% of customers feel less lonely using our bus or car transport and that 89% said hiring a scooter or wheelchair is the only way they can visit the city centre shops. Without Access Plymouth this vulnerable group of people would struggle to do the things we all take for granted.

Some of the costs we need to fund are -

£5 helps buy waterproof covers for our mobility scooters
£10 pays for volunteer driver training
£90 buys a full tank of fuel for a bus
£150 buys new wheelchair
£200 pays for a pair of new batteries for our electric equipment
£960 covers a year’s insurance for a bus
£1000 for a new small mobility scooter
£1200 for a new powerchair
£2000 for a new large mobility scooter
