Volunteer..And Other Ways To Help

Help Plymouth charityWe are often looking for additional people to help run the Access Plymouth scheme which we operate from our premises in Mayflower Street Car Park services and appreciate your considering helping our Plymouth charity. There are a number of ways you can help us, from working in our branch to volunteering as one of our drivers and even becoming a friend (see below).

Whichever way to choose to help it goes a long way to helping with our cause and is sure to bring you and the people you help a lot of happiness!

Volunteer Work In Plymouth With 'Access Plymouth'

What can be more rewarding than volunteer work in Plymouth, enjoying the beautiful city and helping the old and frail? Here at Access Plymouth we provide a range of services aimed at giving the people of Plymouth - and those visiting Plymouth - the mobility they deserve and we are always looking for people who want to help our charity.

We require volunteers to run the Access Plymouth scheme which we operate from our premises in Mayflower Street Car Park (click here for directions on Google Maps)..and we also need drivers for our community car scheme.

Shopmobility Volunteers Hours flexible as agreed (Mon - Sat)

Shopmobility volunteers

As a volunteer in our premises (Mayflower East Car Park, Mayflower Street, Plymouth) you'll be required to carry out the following duties:

Reception
  • Dealing with clients in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Referring clients to relevant members of staff if unable to deal with a situation
  • Answering Shopmobility phone and dealing with Shopmobility bookings/enquiries etc.
  • Assisting clients with completion of registration forms
  • Completing equipment issue cards and carrying out other procedures applicable to equipment hire
  • Receiving and securing customer deposits
  • Collecting relevant scooter or wheelchair from garage and advising client on use as necessary
  • Returning equipment to garage after return and de-brief by client
Assisting in Lounge and Coffee Bar:
  • Help serve teas, coffees etc.
  • Handling cash
  • Dealing with clients in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Keeping Kitchen area clean and tidy
  • Be aware of relevant Hygiene instructions
Other duties as agreed including:
  • Ring & Ride and / or Community Car telephone bookings, general office duties
  • Assist with fund raising activities

Volunteer Drivers Hours flexible as agreed (Mon - Fri)

Volunteer driversHours flexible as agreed - preferably one or two days (or half days) a week (Mon - Fri).

Requirements:

Active and reliable persons who possess a regularly maintained car, preferably with 4 doors, rear seat belts and an engine capacity above 1001cc.
Potential drivers should possess a clean driving licence and be able to obtain written confirmation from their Insurance Company that their policy remains valid when participating in the scheme.
There will be a CRB check and we also require two independent references plus one from your doctor.

Duties:
  • Carry passengers on pre-booked journeys for either medical or social purposes
  • Give a steadying arm where necessary and help clients between their front door and the car
  • Fold manual wheelchairs or frames for transportation if required
  • Assist passengers with a reasonable amount of shopping if requested
  • Deal with clients in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Drivers are paid a mileage rate for journeys made on our behalf (to cover their costs) and are required to keep accurate records of mileage and journeys to complete monthly claim forms
  • Drivers do not accept cash from passengers as clients are billed on a monthly basis for all journeys travelled
